In Ephesians 4, Paul starts giving some practical directions to the church with 'stop telling lies'. Why does he start with that? Lies and deception led to the fall. God is about bringing things out into the open so that forgiveness and reconciliation can happen. For the church to grow we need to get beyond superficiality. Mark encourages us to think the best of each other and not to spread rumours about others, to be quick to apologise and to receive forgiveness from God and others, and to speak truthfully to each other.
